ABOUT THE ARTIST
I work in the encaustic medium, which originated in Egypt over 2000 years ago. It is a time consuming process in which hot beeswax and pigments are applied to a prepared, reinforced wooden board in multiple layers. The beeswax is applied as a hot liquid and the entire surface is heated with a propane torch allowing me to "paint with fire". Every painting is unique and truly one of a kind. Layers have always been part of my work, spending 27 yrs working in surgery as a medical artist. I often think of my boards as the "bones" and enjoy building up a surface to create depth and history. I strive to create a place of reflection and healing, knowing that we usually have the answers to our questions; we just need to slow down enough to find them. I was very honored to be one of the 40 artists selected to be included in "Encaustic Works 09" an International Encaustic Biennial in NY this spring. ![]() >> View Resume |
